HUMAN TRAFFICKING / CHILD LABOR
The United Nations has estimated that almost half of all children under five years old have no birth certificates, leaving them invisible and at much higher risks of trafficking. Once trafficked, these children and minors could be sold to sex brothels, modern slavery rings, or become part of the illegal organ trade. To combat this, initiatives like the one between the UN and the World Identity Network are working to use blockchain-based identity applications in order to fight child trafficking.

- An important downfall of this present idea for blockchain would be keeping the biometric data of vulnerable populations safe and protected from potential harm. Restricting access to this data is a must.
